Balama Mine – 11.25 MW

This project comprises of a 11.25 MWp Solar Photovoltaic installation, combined with a 8.5 Mw Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and is managed by a hybrid power control system. Under the agreement with Syrah Resources, Solarcentury built, owns and operates the solar power plant.

This project will reduce the use of diesel in the mining operations by 35%. This is a boon in a global context marked by volatile fossil fuel prices. “At times, the hybrid power system will be able to supply up to 100% of the mine’s electricity needs. We are immensely proud of our engineering team for achieving an industry-leading 35% renewable energy penetration rate that will significantly reduce Syrah’s CO2 emissions,” said Jason De Carteret, Solarcentury Africa’s managing director.

Scott AFB – 3 MW

The 2.8-MW PV system produces 3.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually and enables the community to draw 15 to 20% of its total electricity supply from clean, renewable energy. The project was completed Q3 of 2021.

The installation of the rooftop PV systems was built and operated by affiliates of True Green Capital Management (TGC), Hunt’s solar energy partner. These PV systems will further reduce Scott’s environmental impact and carbon footprint, ultimately decreasing reliance on non-renewable energy sources. The project directly supports the state of Illinois’ goal to achieve 100% renewable energy by the year 2050.

Chelveston Renewable Energy Park – 8,09 MW + 12,5 MW

Chelveston Renewable Energy Park, based in East Northamptonshire, is a 750-acre scheme which currently generates a combined output around 80MW of renewable energy.

The renewable energy includes wind and solar, following an £80m investment. Initially, Chelveston Renewable Energy obtained planning permission in December 2008 for an anaerobic digestion plant on the former airfield with a generating capacity of 1 – 5MW. In June 2009, planning permission was granted for a bio-fuel proposal with a generating capacity of 6 MW. Since then, the scale of the park has increased significantly.

The next phase of the development has commenced with the construction of on-site battery storage, with further investment planned. The green light for extension of the renewable energy park was approved by the East Northamptonshire Council’s Planning Management Committee, on January 2020.

Recom initially supplied 8.09 MW of solar modules (405 WP Mono) for this project. The project was once again approved for extension in the middle of 2021, with the addition of 12.5 MW of RECOM 650 shingled bifacial modules. The Chelveston Renewable Energy park overall will produce sufficient power for 60,450 households, offsetting some 78.75 tonnes a year of CO2 emissions from other power stations.

The “Soleil de Chaillac” project is a ground mounted photovoltaic power plant located in the town of the same name, in the department of Indre (36). It’s constructed by VSB ENERGIES NOUVELLES SARL using nearly 45.000 pieces of 305 MW Monocrystalline RECOM modules.  VSB Energies Nouvelles is a leading player in the renewable energy sector in France, and specialised in the development, construction and operation of photovoltaic plants, wind farms or hydroelectric plants.

Located on the former Barytine mine, the power station now uses inactive, non-agricultural and non-constructible land. The site is reinventing itself to become a positive energy zone.

Nature has regained its rights on this inactive site. During construction, the “VSB energies nouvelles” team discovered a variety of orchids protected at European level. Preserving this species was a priority for the company. After geological studies, the teams replanted the flower on a preserved area, favourable to its development.

The studies of deliverable estimate a production of more than 15,500,000 kWh of electricity each year.

Frenaros – 4,4 MW

Connected to the grid of the Cyprus Electricity Authority Frenaros is the biggest grid connected Photovoltaic Plant Project in Cyprus, with nominal power of 4,4 MWp which is comprised of 12.756 RECOM 345 Wp Mono modules and 85 ABB TRIO 50 KW inverters.

The implementation of this PV park in 2017 offers multiple social and environmental benefits. The shifting to ‘green’ generated energy opens additional jobs on the island and makes a significant contribution to protecting the environment. The PV park in Frenaros area is saving about 5.500 tons of CO2 per year, equivalent to CO2 emissions of 2.400 cars per year. Also, more than 1.500 households in the area are powered by the PV Park.

The GDL Green Energy Group, with the completion of this PV Park, the largest in Cyprus, is implementing its vision of big energy investments in Cyprus using photovoltaics and strengthens its strong commitment in this direction by taxing even greater investments in near future. The project is financed by European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) through a non-recourse loan.
